MEZUZAH MAKING – A JEWISH STUDIO PROJECT

The Jewish Studio Project is part of a broader movement exploring the fertile integration of Jewish learning and the ‘arts.’  Jewish study has always been a creative enterprise, but one dominated by words and the intellect at the expense of our our other senses and creative faculties.  This class will engage participants in the process of creating a ritual item used to dedicate a home or sacred space, a mezuzah.  We will explore the traditional texts and symbols of a mezuzah through a variety of artistic media, from sound and music, to color and form. Together we will draw and paint, cut and paste, tap and hum, sculpt and build.

Classes are offered in-person and virtually through Zoom:

• Fridays 9:30 – 10:45am MT/ 11:30 – 12:45pm ET (Class meets: Sept 22, 29, Oct 6, 13, 20, Nov 17, Dec 1, 8, and 15 – No class Oct 27, Nov 3, 10, and 24)
