Whether you “believe in” God or not, you have a set of prominent images or metaphors that you associate with God and either reject, embrace, or try to ignore. What are they? Have they evolved over your lifetime, and if so, how?
Among the great contributions of Kabbalah, we can count an expanded repertoire of metaphors with which we might engage and relate to various aspects of godliness, such as God as Lover, God as Everything, and God as Nothingness. In a new book called “God is Here,” Rabbi Toba Spitzer continues this effort to diversify the menu of divine metaphors, including God as Water, God as Cloud, God as Fire. With R. Toba as our guide (and hopefully a special guest), we will explore elements from the natural world as symbols of divinity and experiment with them as tools for personal and collective transformation.
