Writing on the Mirror

My husband and I have a quirky habit. We write notes on our bathroom mirrors with dry erase markers.

This is a nice way to give a little love note in our normally busy (pre-COVID) lives “Love you! Have a great day!” Sometimes these notes are reminders “Call so-and-so. Shave. Trim Micah’s nails. Pick up dry cleaning.” They are reminders to ourselves as much as they are to one another.

I find the act of writing these intentions to be a way that I separate the endless thread of ‘just have to’s’ in my mind before I go to sleep at night. There are also few things more satisfying to me than the end of the day, when I can erase the ‘to-do’s’  on the mirror and start fresh.

We discuss in Kabbalah about the power of setting intentions- and how we can affect change and manifest these intentions by stating them (and then taking action). Our writing on the mirror, is reflective of this concept.

July 1st was the beginning of the fiscal year at Kabbalah Experience.  This also marks my first anniversary as the Executive Director of the organization. To mark the beginning of the new year- I’d like to share a few intentions with you- my writing on the mirror.

What’s on my mind for KE before I go to bed at night? What will we be reflecting on throughout this year?

  • Establish Kabbalah Experience as a national organization
    • I am committed to work with our board, and strategic planning partners, to launch KE to the next level. This year, Kabbalah Experience has engaged students and faculty from around the world. How can we be more intentional about marketing and outreach, establishing our visibility, reputation, and connections?
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
    • Particularly in light of the times in which we are living, we are keenly aware of the need to expand our outreach and engagement to ensure KE is a warm, welcoming, and engaging place of learning for people from all spiritual, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Our Board has formed a taskforce that will be advising this work- and we continue to make efforts to reach out to and collaborate with diverse and inclusive organizations and people locally, nationally, and internationally.

I am committed to lead our organization with integrity, spirit, creativity, and grit. We are living through unprecedented times. We don’t know when our physical doors will open again, but we do know we are making hundreds of personal connections on a weekly basis. We are doing the best we can with the imperfect world we are living in, and we appreciate you being on this journey with us.

I look forward to revisiting these intentions in 2021- and see what we have been able to manifest with and through them.

Tonight, I went to brush my teeth and found a note on the mirror from my daughter. “Hi Mom and Abba! I love you guys! From, Hannah.”

I guess, like apples and trees… so, too, are markers and mirrors. As David teaches- Images in the mirror are closer than they appear.

With gratitude,

Melanie

It’s wonderful to hear from you and be inspired by your energy for the future! You have reminded me that there will be a wider horizon for us, even as my own world has narrowed to my home and garden!
